Locating The Correct Turbo Buick Engine Parts

July 28th, 2010 by Sean Reed

Many automotive machine shops face difficulties when obtaining replacement engine parts for an engine. Some of the strongest engines around have not been produced in many years. This has created a challenge for the modern performance engine rebuilder which they must overcome. A number of engine builders are facing this situation now with performance Buick V6 engine parts.

The Buick Grand National, which is driven by a turbo 3.8L engine, is known for its ability to produce a major amount of horsepower. General Motors quit designing this vehicle back in the late 80’s and now has a very limited number of engine parts available. Therefore, most automotive machine shops look to aftermarket suppliers for replacement engine parts.

Recently, a couple businesses have stopped producing vital engine parts such as connecting rods. This part shortage has created an opportunity for overseas manufacturers, which many in the USA attribute to further stressing the domestic manufacturing industry and driving others to close their doors.

The number of new turbo Buick engine blocks is in short supply and are hard to locate. There are some on the market, but very few businesses have them available for purchase. Because of this, the demand for good used engine blocks exists and thrives. In many situations these cylinder blocks may be machined to exact specifications and used in high performance boosted engines.

Even with the right components, a limited number of machine shops have the experience building Buick engines. Unlike other engines, there are performance modifications that may be made which will increase horsepower and dependability. While seeking out the services of a specialty engine rebuilder may be more costly initially, they generally have the experience to build a turbo Buick V6 engine which is built to last.

For the time being, there are aftermarket engine parts available for the 3.8L turbo Buick engine. These engine parts have been tested and have worked properly under extreme racing conditions. In fact, these engines can still give any modern day engine a good challenge for its money.

Sean is an automotive machinist at Weber Power Products. This company has over ninety years of combined knowledge building Buick engines. This company also retails engine parts for the turbo Buick engine.
